Art Imaging

A Unique Art Imaging Service

We use a unique and innovative blend of photographic and scanner technologies to create a stunningly lifelike image of your artwork. We achieve a sharp and accurate image over a wide gamut of colours and contrast values for all artistic media.

We use our own specially developed variable three dimensional lighting system during the imaging process (scanning) to capture texture in paintings such as oils and acrylics, or other highly-textured media. The depth of texture in the image is controllable, and we can offer a choice of results.

'Flat' art such as watercolours, can be lit sympathetically to reproduce the medium accurately and reduce unwanted texture.

No Need to Unframe

Generally imaging / scanning is better carried out on an unframed picture, but it can be done when framed, or even behind glass without significant loss of image quality.

Contact Free

Unlike flatbed scanning, we do not have to touch the surface of the art so there is no risk of damage.

Damaged or Faded art

As part of our standard service we offer editing of the image to correct lack of colour or contrast in the original, for example due to fading or sunlight exposure. We can also remove minor imperfections. We aim to improve the original where possible.

Serious imperfections will require extra work (See the Retouching page).

Mobile Service - We'll Come To You!

We offer a unique mobile art imaging service, providing the very best imaging of your art in your space, studio, gallery or home. We will come to you, discuss your requirements, set up the imaging system and digitise your art usually within one visit. Please contact us to book.

Location Requirements for Mobile Imaging

To set up the standard imaging system, an available floor space of at least 2.1 x 2.1 metres is required. We also need a space to set up our control computer and monitor, and a power outlet.

We image your art vertically on the wall or on your easel. Please note your artwork needs to be set perfectly vertical if on an easel. We check this with a laser level. If you don’t have a suitable easel, we can bring one.

Where the art is framed behind glass and the room has daylight causing unwanted reflections, we will bring our light blocking theatre cube to control this. It does require a little extra space to set up.

It usually takes around 45 minutes to set up and calibrate the system prior to imaging depending on unloading location and space. If the blocking theatre cube is needed it adds around 30 minutes to the process.

We'll need close accessible all day parking for our vehicle.
